Overview

Brian qualified as a Solicitor in 1965. 

Brian is Head of our Conveyancing Department which provides a full range of commercial and residential services to clients, including house sales and purchases (both leasehold and freehold), transfers of equity, remortgages (both residential and buy-to-let) and new build developments.

During his 56 years in practice, Brian has dealt with almost every type of legal problem – from crime to divorce and from boundary disputes to the sale of businesses.

 

Brian now concentrates primarily on the following matters: 

  • The acquisition, lease and disposal of shops, offices and industrial units. 
  • Employment matters, including Settlement Agreements and redundancy problems.
  • The extension of residential Leases.
  • Problematic registrations of property at the Land Registry.

Brian qualified as a Family Mediator in 1995 and was, for many years, a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. 

Brian has close links with Shenfield, having also previously been the owner for many years of Shenfield Travel Bureau. Brian is very well regarded by his fellow professionals and has been President of the Southend on Sea and Mid Essex District Law Societies.  He has also held numerous other appointments, including 

  • Member of the Council of the Law Society for Essex (the Governing Body for all Solicitors). 
  • Chairman of the Scrutiny and Performance Review Committee of the Council of the Law Society.
  • Chairman of the General Commissioners of Income Tax for the Grays and Basildon Divisions, dealing with Income Tax appeals from the general public.

Brian’s career and experiences have been so varied that he has written a book about them, entitled “A Law unto myself” (available through Amazon).  As an author in his spare time, he is currently writing another autobiographical book on the experiences of a young person growing up between 1936 and 1959.  Brian also gives regular and highly informative talks on aspects of the Law on Phoenix FM and for some years appeared as legal adviser on an Essex Radio “phone in”, programme, “Lifeline”, dealing with the legal problems of young people.

His former involvements include Chairman of the Cambridge University Society of Essex, Chairman of the Billericay Community Archive and Chairman of the Billericay Reading Rooms Foundation.

Brian is also a Life Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society in recognition of his promotion of overland travel between Europe and the Indian subcontinent in the 1970s.
